San Pedro, Laguna

Friday the 13th. Sir Roy and I head out to San Pedro, Laguna. We go to
the wrong munisipyo -- an understandable mistake since the last name
of the mayor of Muntinlupa is "San Pedro." A fact that complicates
matters when asking for directions to the Municipality of San Pedro.
We get a flat tire. I see two flooded barangays -- you think they're
uninhabited ghost towns, but then you hear people singing karaoke or
see people playing cards on the roof. Favorite memories: creative
modes of transportation (raft with monobloc chairs and an umbrella! a
freezer!); men fishing; a Christmas tree and a woman in a blue
house-dress explaining, with a smile, that the tree is there because
they want to be happy even if they're underwater.

Eclipse

Once upon a time I was falling in love
But now I’m only falling apart
There’s nothing I can do
A total eclipse of the heart
Once upon a time there was light in my life
But now there’s only love in the dark
Nothing I can say
A total eclipse of the heart — Bonnie Tyler

i could have gone with U2’s staring at the sun but total eclipse of the heart is made of old-school win. here’s a photo i took through my sister’s aforementioned dental x-ray.

Angono, Rizal: Balaw Balaw

This is what a restaurant in the art capital of the Philippines looks
like. They serve exotic food, so exotic that two items on the menu
(sawa and bayawak) had to be taken off because they're endangered.
Balaw Balaw = shrimp paste. The one food shot I took is of their
specialty, Minaluto. Last two pictures were taken at the studio of
Salvador Juban, Botong's apprentice.

Angono, Rizal: Bahay na Botong (Botong's House)

House/studio of National Artist Carlos "Botong" V. Francisco in
Angono, Rizal. The painting (second picture) is by his grandson, who
was named after him. Check out the magazine porn! I badly wanted to
leaf through those disintegrating issues of Life and National
Geographic.
